On 15 December, two vessels Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 were wrecked in the Kerch Strait during a strong storm. The tankers were carrying 9200 tonnes of fuel oil, of which 3700 tonnes ended up in the sea. Now works are underway to eliminate oil product spills in the coastal zone of the Taman Peninsula and the sea area. Cleaning is also necessary in the territory of regional SPNAs (Specially Protected Natural Areas) - the Anapa Peresypy Nature Park and the Solene Lake Nature Monument have already been polluted. These protected areas are the habitats and breeding grounds of many bird species, including those listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory. The Taman Peninsula is also a nesting ground for colonial bird species and warm wintering grounds for waterfowl and waterfowl. The number of migrating and wintering birds can reach several million individuals.

Fuel oil pollution leads to the death of animals living here, so the territories of protected areas must be cleaned of oil products. Assistance in purchasing missing materials and equipment is needed immediately!

The Nature and People Foundation supports regional PAs on the Taman Peninsula in the fuel oil spill zone - the funds will be used to purchase the necessary equipment, consumables and personal protective equipment for those involved in the rapid clean-up of the main pollution.
