Sonya Naumenko was born on time, strong and healthy in appearance, with good indicators. But hypoxia during childbirth led to hemorrhages, including in the vascular plexuses of the brain.
In the first months of life, Sonya began to hold her head up, followed toys, and rolled over. But by the age of one, it became clear that something was wrong. Her legs were constantly tense, her fingers were curled, and her hands were clenched into fists. She even crawled, leaning not on her palms, but on her fists. Only at 1 year and 3 months was the diagnosis made: CP (infantile cerebral palsy), spastic diplegia. This means that all four limbs are affected by spasticity - the muscles are constantly tense, constrained, and do not allow free movement.
At 3.5 years old Sonya underwent a very complex operation on her spinal cord – selective dorsal rhizotomy. Now she can stand without support, walk around the house (even if sometimes falls), climb stairs, holding onto the railings and even learn to jump. For a healthy child these are ordinary things. For Sonya it's a real victory.
Despite all the difficulties, 4-year-old Sonya is a cheerful, smart girl. Behind every small success of hers is a daily work. It is difficult for Sonya to walk outside due to uneven surfaces, fatigue, fear of falling. She needs a special wheelchair that will help her hold her back correctly and position her legs at the right angle to avoid further health complications. Your help is greatly needed to give Sonya the freedom of movement so that she could walk, learn and grow without pain and limitations.
Your contribution will also help partially pay the work of Movement Up Foundation administration staff.
