Three years ago, doctors performed surgery on Tansula, which at the time seemed like the end to a difficult journey. The girl recovered quickly, smiling, and taking to life, and the family was relieved to believe the disease was a thing of the past.
But recently, the parents noticed that the shape of their child's head had changed again. A CT scan confirmed their worst fears: the sutures of the skull had begun to fuse again. This complication occurs in only five percent of children with craniosynostosis.
So far, Tansula is active, playing, and learning new things—the disease hasn't manifested any severe symptoms. However, without surgery, the risks are high: her blood pressure increases, and her vision and development can be affected.
Surgeons have scheduled skull reconstruction for the end of November.
