A few months ago, we announced a fundraising campaign for Nikita’s rehabilitation — he’s an athlete who was injured during training and needs to recover. We’re sharing what happened during the time the boy spent in rehabilitation, which was paid for with your help.
“Nikita has become more active, he’s grown stronger, he sits independently in a wheelchair (without any supports), and even though his arms are still a bit weak, he controls the wheelchair himself,” his mother, Maria, shares. “He eats independently, although we still tie a spoon to his hand.” Even while standing in a push‑up position, he can balance on one leg. These are all small things, unnoticeable to some — but for us, they represent huge progress.
A year ago, the boy “broke” his cervical spine and ended up completely immobilized — none of the doctors dared to give the family a good prognosis.
But Nikita is a fighter; he worked like an ox all those months after the injury. I started to feel my previously “silent” internal organs, to feel the urge to go to the bathroom, and to control my body – all of this is a very good sign. Based on the CT scan results, the neurosurgeon concluded that the plates securing the replaced broken cervical vertebra had taken well, and now more intensive rehabilitation, more serious loads, and more physical exercises are possible.
“Thank you so much to those who care about children like my son. Thank you for your kind, warm hearts,” says Maria.
