The operation was extremely serious; after it, pain relief was administered via a pump around the clock for three whole days. It was so difficult that at first, Andrey said: “It would have been better if we hadn’t done it.”

“Our attending physician said: in a week, Andrey will be able to stand on his own, but, to be honest, I didn’t believe it was possible.” However, that’s exactly what happened – a week later, the son was already walking around the ward on his own, Katya recalls. “And when I saw that he had grown taller than me, I couldn’t believe in this miracle either! Now, two months later, Andrei has taken his words back. He’s on the move, not lying down. Now the boy doesn’t have to wear loose‑fitting clothes that hide his hump. After all, he’s grown 10 cm. Now you can breathe in full – before, all the internal organs and nerve endings were compressed, and pain was an inseparable companion. The only thing that worries Andrei now is that he didn’t pass the exams. He didn’t make it to the certificate award ceremony, didn’t get into university… “But we’ll apply next year, and for now we’ll gather strength and prepare.
