A few days after her birth, Azalia’s lips turned blue, and her parents rushed her to the doctors. Tests revealed that she had a severe congenital heart defect. The doctors warned that the girl needed urgent surgery, but it was impossible to carry it out in Kyrgyzstan. The family arrived in Moscow. Azalia found the flight very difficult and was immediately admitted to intensive care. Russian cardiac surgeons carried out two complex operations. Her parents did everything they could to save their daughter. Her father raised the money for the first treatment, ended up in debt, and a year later paid for another operation. Her parents hoped that all the difficulties were now behind them. But during a routine check-up, it became clear that Azalia needed another operation. Without it, her heart would not be able to function properly. Azalia is growing up to be a cheerful little girl. She is learning to speak and making small progress every day. Her parents are desperate for their daughter to have a normal childhood. As she does not have Russian citizenship, it is impossible to access free medical care, and the family cannot raise the full amount required on their own.
