Vera

Foundation Moscow

Dmitry is the coordinator of the First Moscow Hospice. In his work, he often comes across amazing people who, as he admits, teach him something important - without realizing it themselves. One of them for Dima was a patient of the hospice A. V. We share with you Dmitriy's notes. - А. V., do you like classical music? - Yes! - Shall we go and listen to it? - Of course! I'd like a front row ticket, please. The concert began: lingering sounds floated down the hall, the lights were dimmed. A.V. always listened to music with his eyes closed. After the concert, he opens his eyes and says: - Life goes on. This is his favorite reaction to things in hospice, which evokes tenderness and inspiration in him. Then had a conversation with him. He said he was once a professor at a major research institution. That might not have been true, but I believed him. He had very meaningful eyes and coherent speech. And he always told me, like a story: - Life goes on, doesn't it, Dimitri? A.V. died tonight. He couldn't wait for the children's choir concert. His last concert was also classical music. Thanks to your support, the coordinators fill each day of the hospice patients with life - for the rest of their lives.

Hospice coordinators need support

Quality end-of-life care does not only consist of pain management, but has a much broader task - to make every day of a terminally ill person full of life - for the rest of his or her life. The medical staff of the hospice helps patients to manage pain and other distressing manifestations of the disease, organizes careful professional care. The hospice coordinator is responsible for the non-medical part of care - for everything that cannot be done by medical staff. Together with a team of volunteers, he does everything to ensure that no one feels lonely and abandoned in the hospice. He helps to find relatives whose contact with them has been cut off, makes sure that there are flowers on the bedside table and favorite cookies for tea, that it is possible to listen to opera in the hall and go for a walk in the garden right in the chair or on the bed. We want the coordinators to be able to continue helping the patients of the First Moscow Hospice - filling their lives with familiar pleasures, small (but so important) joys, surrounding them with care and warmth.
