Nikita has been living in an orphanage for 16 years, since he was born. Due to his complex diagnosis, he suffers from extremely low body weight, as well as severe deformities. Doctors hesitated to take him for surgery to install a gastrostomy for a long time, due to his exhaustion.
Last year, thanks to doctors and special therapeutic nutrition, Nikita managed to gain some weight. Then he was diagnosed with gastrostomy, allowing him to eat. With the help of Tooba users, funds were raised for this device and special food for Nikita.
In November 2024 MBOO "Ty emy nuzhen" organized a visit by a dietician to the orphanage, who made a special diet menu for Nikita and Sasha and recommended special equipment and infusion pumps for proper digestion of food, in order to help children gain weight.
As the doctor explained, during normal feeding, food doesn't have time to be absorbed properly. Children should be fed more slowly, at a rate of no more than 40-60 minutes per meal. However, the orphanage doesn't have this luxury, as the staff would then spend all their work hours feeding the children. So, an infusion pump is needed to help control the feeding process.
