Abubakr's health problems began from birth: he was born prematurely at 29 weeks and was on a high-frequency ventilator for a long time. This led to extensive brain lesions — foci of periventicular leukomalacia in both hemispheres, as well as partial atrophy of the optic nerve.
Since birth, Abubakr underwent regular checkups, and doctors assured him that all the developmental delays were the result of premature birth. However, unfortunately, at the age of 1 year and 2 months, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He started taking rehabilitation courses, which brought positive results. At the moment, Abubakr has learned to crawl on all fours, stay in a sitting position, rise to high knees and take steps with support. He also began to understand the addressed speech and pronounce individual words. Currently, he is learning to get up from high knees, holding on to a support, and walk along it.
In May 2023, SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) surgery was performed. This operation is aimed at reducing spasticity in the lower extremities, which will not only relieve the child from painful sensations, but also significantly increase his rehabilitation potential. The doctor at the consultation explained that after the operation, constant rehabilitation in a fitness regime is necessary.
Abubakr is a very cheerful and positive boy. His favorite activities are swimming, walks by the sea and classes with a speech therapist.
