Ruslan is just over a year old. He is a smiling and mischievous boy with big kind brown eyes. He loves everything that makes funny sounds - rattles, squeakers, rustlers. Ruslan looks like an ordinary child, but inside he has a dangerous disease that has been tormenting the defenseless boy since the very first day.
Ruslan was born with severe combined primary immunodeficiency - a genetic mutation, a rare breakdown in immunity. Any, even the most innocuous infection can cost the baby his life, because his own immune system is practically dysfunctional.
The disease has most severely affected the boy's lungs and skin. Only recently Ruslan spent a week in intensive care, where doctors fought for his life. His condition was critical. Now Ruslan is shown important supportive therapy, which will protect the child's body and prevent the development of life-threatening complications.
