Maryam now has orthoses!

Maryam is 34 years old, and every day of her life she fights a serious illness - dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, which affects the skin, making it thin and sensitive. Any careless movement or touch leaves a wound that does not heal for a long time and hurts. Maryam has to spend most of the day at home. Without the help of her mother, she can do practically nothing: not eat, not get dressed, not comb her hair, not treat her wounds - help is needed everywhere. Mom knows how to properly care for Maryam's special skin, how to do daily dressings, which special healing creams and light breathable bandages to use. But it was not always so. When Maryam was just born, doctors knew little about epidermolysis bullosa. Due to the constant wounds, for which there was no proper care, the girl's fingers grew into a fist. Almost the entire body turned into one large wound, mucous membranes and internal organs were badly damaged. Almost all of her time is now occupied by drawing - this is a hobby since childhood. Maryam can spend a lot of time behind him, forgetting about the constant pain. Mom gave her a graphic tablet, but the girl cannot use it 100% because of the fused fingers. Now Maryam can help in this with silicone orthoses - special devices that are put on the hand and partially restore its functions. The development of these orthoses will be carried out by real professionals - prosthetics engineers of the Children-Butterflies Foundation. Especially for Maryam, they will make orthoses that will allow her to do a lot on her own, and also draw on a tablet. For this, a special loop for the stylus will appear on the orthosis. Maryam has been dreaming about it for so long! The prosthetists also found a special solution for Maryam's legs, which were also not spared by the disease. The fragile skin on the feet becomes inflamed and covered with wounds from friction, so ordinary shoes do not fit her, but orthopedic shoes will definitely suit her. They are lightweight, with a stable sole and Velcro, which Maryam can handle herself. In order to use these devices herself, Maryam will need help, which the rehabilitator is ready to provide. Now, in addition to orthoses and rehabilitation, Maryam also needs medicines and dressings. In such a difficult case as hers, dressings with the use of special ointments, creams and elastic bandages are needed every day so that old wounds heal faster and new ones appear as little as possible. 4 orthoses, one for each arm and leg, classes with a rehabilitation therapist and a set of dressings for 2-3 weeks will cost 287,302 rubles.
