Some animals coming into the shelter have visible injuries, while others are hidden by lethargy, anemia, weakness, and veterinarians need to find the cause of the condition. Often these symptoms hide serious illnesses that cannot be detected “by eye”. Babesiosis and piroplasmosis, which is transmitted by ticks, destroys red blood cells, causes anemia, intoxication and organ failure. Dirofilariasis - a parasitic disease in which worm-like dirofilariae settle in the heart and pulmonary vessels. It often goes unnoticed but leads to heart failure and death.
These diseases are common especially in the warm season, from April to November, often they do not give specific symptoms at the beginning, but it is early diagnosis that gives a chance of survival. That is why the shelter needs PCR cartridges “Babesiosis” and “Dirofilariasis” and an incubator for preparing biological samples for analysis.
All the animals in the project photo once suffered from the diseases described above, now they are healthy, have found a home, safety, nourishment and warmth.
