This is Sergei, and for the last 9 years, with the support of his family and friends, he has been fighting against a terrible disease - brain cancer.
He was diagnosed when he was 4 years old, until that age the boy had never been sick or hospitalized. But at one point he felt bad, and within a week he was in the intensive care ward.
What happened to the healthy and active child? After several examinations, the doctors diagnosed him with medulloblastoma of cerebellar vermis and the 4th ventricle, or simply brain tumor.
Sergei had three surgeries, then radiation and chemotherapy. And after two years of long and exhausting treatment the boy and his mother were discharged home. Sergei went back to school and gradually returned to normal life. But after surgery and heavy treatment, he was left with many complications. Most of all, he suffered from headaches. The pains were so severe that Sergei could not even stand up. And lately he even stopped eating and drinking.
"Three times we were in the intensive care unit, many times in the pediatric ward. We had both a CT scan and an MRI, a "pile" of tests, mountains of painkillers. In the end we were diagnosed with migraine. - Lilia, Sergei's mother, tells me. - My son took medications, we tried to limit his exposure to provoking factors. But nothing helped.
And finally, the doctors found the probable cause of his poor health - the intraventricular shunt was not working properly. Now it is very important to make a replacement, and neurosurgeons strongly recommend buying a modern programmable shunt, which can be adjusted for the child and the peculiarities of his disease. That is why we are collecting 141,000 rubbles for Sergey. We hope very much that the surgery will help the boy to live without pain, actively develop, learn and explore the world. Please help pay for the expensive equipment!
