Amir is growing up in a big, loving family. He’s eight years old and will be starting school this year. He enjoys going for walks, building railroads, and planning train routes.
Amir has Larsen syndrome — a rare condition that causes joint deformities and instability from birth. Because of this, one of his legs barely bends, making it hard for him to move around.
At home, he can walk a little with someone’s support and even climb stairs. But outside, he can only cover short distances — he can’t go far without a wheelchair.
Right now, Amir uses a heavy orthopedic wheelchair. It’s difficult to manage, especially during trips for treatment, which happen five or six times a year. And soon, he’ll be starting school, where he’ll need to get around on his own.
Recently, Amir got to try an active wheelchair at kindergarten. At first, he was nervous and unsure if he could do it. But soon, he was moving between rooms by himself — even playing tag with his mom!
