When Abdullo was two and a half years old, he was diagnosed with a tumor near his optic nerve and diagnosed with piloid astrocytoma of the left optic nerve.
In Tajikistan, where the boy is from, there is no equipment or surgeons who would be willing to remove the tumor and save his eye. So his parents brought Abdullo to Moscow, where they removed most of the tumor. But because of the close proximity to the eye, some of the cancer cells had to be left behind.
Within a year, the boy was monitored by oncologists. Now doctors found a re-growth of the tumor. Abdullo needs radiation therapy to destroy the new growth.
The family is in cramped circumstances and has to ask for help from charitable foundations and people who care. It is vital for Abdullo to undergo treatment until the end, and the parents are making every effort to do so.
Little Abdullo is too young to understand the seriousness of the disease. He does what all children do: he rides his bike and scooter, plays with cubes or draws with his older brother. Parents try not to tire their son and protect his eyesight.
The boy's father plans to make Abdullo a Russian citizen in order to receive free treatment. But this takes time, and the radiation therapy must be done now.
