A girl who has been using a wheelchair for more than 10 years due to type II spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) has taken an important step towards overcoming her scoliosis. Due to her muscle weakness, her spine has taken on an S-shaped form, causing severe pain and making it difficult for her to sit upright.
Doctors have performed a dorsal correction and fixation of the thoracolumbar region by installing a special metal structure on her spine. This structure will help maintain her body in the correct position. Thanks to modern techniques, this system does not require repeated surgeries. The procedure itself was made possible by people who cared, including users of the Tooba platform, who raised the necessary funds.
Alice is currently feeling well and is recovering. She will soon undergo an important stage of rehabilitation. The girl, who was previously afraid to even think about this procedure, now looks forward to the future with hope. She dreams of becoming more mobile, more independent, and returning to her beloved drawing, which was becoming more difficult for her every day.
The main thing is that Alice did not give up, and now she has a chance for a straight back and a new, more comfortable life.
