With your help, we have already enabled many children with CP and other motor impairments to become active and independent by purchasing active wheelchairs. It’s freedom of movement, the opportunity to study, go for walks, make friends, and be on an equal footing. But for a wheelchair to truly become “their own,” it needs to be fitted correctly. For this, a child needs consultations with a physical therapist.
We are launching a fundraiser for such consultations for 10 of our beneficiaries. Each child needs two appointments with a specialist: to assess seating, measure height and arm length, determine levels of strength and endurance, and take into account the daily route — home, street, school. During the consultations, they select seat width and angle, wheel diameter, rim type, adjust balance, and teach safe maneuvering.
Why is this important? Without precise fitting, a wheelchair can cause chafing, lead to fatigue, and end up sitting unused in a corner. With the right fit, it is light, maneuverable, and gives confidence. Such consultations are the first step toward independence.
Support the fundraiser: thanks to you, children will get “their” wheelchair sooner, be able to move on their own, and be on an equal footing with their peers — every day.
