7-year-old Ruslan spent his first years of life in an asocial family, where the parents did not care about their son's development. The development of speech, memory and attention lagged behind the norm. When Ruslan was 4, he was taken to an orphanage. There, for the first time, he felt that someone cared about him: he was fed warm soup, dressed in clean clothes and put to bed in a bed made with bed linen. But, unfortunately, the adults did not pay attention to the child's development.
Last summer, Ruslan was welcomed into an adoptive family—Mom Mila and Dad Damir. They were shocked to discover how much he didn’t know: he couldn’t name the days of the week or basic geometric shapes, and he could focus for no more than ten minutes at a time. They have worked with him all year, and he has learned a great deal. Nevertheless, specialists recommend regular sessions with a special-needs educator so that Ruslan can keep up with his peers at school. Three sessions a week will help him learn to concentrate, remember, and read confidently.
