Maria is 6 years old. She was born healthy, but when it was time to roll over and crawl, she couldn’t do it. Her parents turned to specialists, but Maria was diagnosed with cerebral palsy only at 13 months, and at 15 months she was given a disability status. Since then, she has been regularly undergoing rehabilitation.
Now Maria is growing very fast — each summer she stretches by 8–10 centimeters. Without constant physical therapy and stretching after the surgery on her legs, complications may occur. Rehabilitation strengthens her muscles, reduces spasticity, and helps preserve the results to bring Maria closer to her dream — to walk more confidently and freely.
Maria is an amazing girl who sees no obstacles. She sings and performs on stage, writes her own songs, paints papier-mâché figures, loves reading, and can already count to 20 in her head. Her sports achievements are especially inspiring: she practices adaptive alpine skiing, conquered the famous B-52 slope in Sochi, and even did rock climbing — with her coach she climbed a real cliff.
In the family, only her father works. Her mother devotes all her time to Maria’s rehabilitation and also helps other families with children with disabilities on a voluntary basis. Maria has an older sister who goes to school.
