Varvara is 10 years old. She was born prematurely, suffered from hypoxia and brain hemorrhage, and at 2 months was diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity, which required two eye surgeries. At the age of one, Varvara was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. When she was 6, Varvara underwent foot reconstruction surgery in Kurgan using an autograft from the fibula.
She is currently in the 2nd grade and regularly participates in adaptive physical therapy. Varvara can sit, move along supports, walk with a walker, stand unassisted for short periods, and take up to five independent steps. The family’s recent efforts focus on developing and reinforcing her independent walking skills. Doctors assess Varvara’s rehabilitation potential as high, and new abilities emerge after each therapy course: in May 2025, she learned to stand up from the floor without support or assistance.
Varvara is a very curious and creative girl. She loves books, music, and singing, adores dogs, makes paper crafts, and sculpts animals from clay. She dreams that once she learns to walk, she will play basketball, practice karate, and go mountain skiing!
Varvara and her mother moved from their hometown Saratov to Moscow for better rehabilitation and a specialized school—there are no suitable conditions for a special child in their small town.
