Nika is 9 years old. She was born prematurely and spent her first month on a ventilator, followed by intensive care. By 8 months, Nika could already roll over, sit, and hold toys, but soon after she had her first epileptic seizure, which caused a temporary regression in her development. Later, she was diagnosed with West syndrome and then cerebral palsy.
Over the years, Nika has undergone many hospitalizations and rehabilitation courses in federal centers. In 2022 and 2023, she had complex surgeries on her hip joints and feet. It is now especially important for her to continue regular physiotherapy and physical therapy to maintain her progress and prevent complications.
Despite all the challenges, Nika has made significant progress. She started attending a preparatory class at Ozerki School and delights her family with her speech achievements: she can now recite poems and describe pictures in full sentences. Nika has many friends at school, but her closest companion remains her older sister Taya, with whom she draws, shares secrets, and attends cultural events.
Nika is a cheerful, bright, and determined girl. She works with a speech therapist and a special education teacher, goes swimming, rides horses, loves drawing, and happily completes all tasks assigned by her specialists. She is a true hard worker who knows how to enjoy the little things and never gives up.
Currently, Nika’s mother is raising her and her sister alone, and it is impossible for the family to cover the cost of her rehabilitation on their own.
