Artem is 13 years old. He has cerebral palsy. He was born full-term and healthy, but at two months old doctors discovered a tumor in his right eye. After three surgeries, the eye became blind. Later, doctors diagnosed a congenital cytomegalovirus infection, which led to cerebral palsy.
Now Artem can sit on his own, stand with support, take a few steps with assistance, drink from a cup, and say his first words. He studies at home in a special education program, loves books, educational games, and always tries to stay neat and organized.
Regular courses of physical therapy, hippotherapy, swimming, and speech therapy help Artem strengthen his muscles, improve coordination, and move closer to his dream — walking independently.
Artem lives with his mother and grandmother. His father passed away when he was only two years old. To pay for his treatment and rehabilitation, the family sold their three-room apartment and moved into a smaller one — all the money went toward Artem’s recovery. Despite the hardships, his mother and grandmother never give up and do everything they can to help him become more independent.
