Shukria was born in Tajikistan just under a year ago. However, her joy was immediately marred: she was born with an open, sac-like wound on her spine that required immediate surgery. The diagnosis of spina bifida — a condition known as spina bifida — was a harsh death sentence for the young family.

Shukria cannot sleep normally: the duration of sleep is only 5-10 minutes, which exhausts both the child and the parents. Without urgent surgery, deafness, blindness, or other serious complications that threaten life and development can overtake her.
Parents and relatives have exhausted all their financial capabilities, trying to cope with the situation on their own, but the funds for the operation are not enough.
