Support the supported living project — help fund the work of a social worker

Sasha is 43 years old and has multiple developmental disabilities. His life has been difficult from the very beginning: when his mother learned of his diagnoses, she gave him up. Sasha first ended up in a baby home, then in an orphanage, and later — in a psychoneurological institution for adults. In this closed facility, he became withdrawn, stopped talking, and could spend hours just standing by the window. It was clear that life in the institution was unbearable for him. With help from a lawyer at “Perspektivy,” permission was obtained for his discharge, and Sasha moved into supported housing. For the past two years, this cozy apartment has been home to five young people with severe disabilities whom “Perspektivy” helped begin a new, more independent life. Every day, the residents receive support and assistance from the organization’s staff. During this time, Sasha has changed a lot: he’s become more sociable, found an accessible job, and started acting in theater. He set up his own room and even got an aquarium with fish. Now he has things he never had in the institution — communication, celebrations, personal space and belongings, and the ability to make his own decisions. His interest in life has returned, along with the desire to take care of himself. A social worker supports the residents of the apartment in all areas of their lives. Please support this important work!
