Kayla is 4 years old and was born with a congenital condition — spina bifida. The diagnosis became known at 19–20 weeks of pregnancy. Despite severe medical forecasts, the family decided to continue the pregnancy. During pregnancy, Kayla underwent fetal surgery to close the spinal defect, which made it possible to prolong the pregnancy until 34 weeks.
After birth, it became clear that the condition affected leg movement. Thanks to regular rehabilitation, Kayla learned to crawl, get on all fours, and developed partial weight-bearing in her legs. Movement in the right leg has partially recovered, and positive changes have also appeared in the left leg. Kayla also required surgery due to hydrocephalus; her condition is currently stable.
Kayla is developing according to her age. She enjoys drawing, creative activities, playing with her sisters, and staying active. She uses a wheelchair and strives to become more independent.
At this stage, Kayla needs another course of rehabilitation to strengthen her muscles, improve weight-bearing, and move closer to taking her first independent steps. Let’s help her move forward together.
