Abubakr is 8 years old and has epidermolysis bullosa (EB). This is a rare genetic disease that significantly reduces the strength of the skin: any touch can lead to injury.
Despite the diagnosis, Abubakr is an active and cheerful child. He loves football, collects players' cards, loves cars, enjoys playing with his younger brother, goes to kids' clubs and cafes - small joys that allow him to live an ordinary childhood life.
Wounds with EB are constantly bleeding and getting wet. Because of this, the body loses a lot of fluid, protein (primarily albumin), and iron. These deficits slow down healing, and the skin gets more and more damaged, which is how the vicious circle closes. That's exactly what's happening to Abubakr right now.
"We have been under medical supervision since September. My son has reduced albumin, he gets it regularly. The wounds don't heal, there are a lot of them, and it takes a lot of bandages," says Mom.
Patients with EB are not suitable for conventional bandages: they require special atraumatic bandages that do not stick to the skin and do not injure it even more. But such materials are expensive, and there are especially many of them needed now.
The Butterfly Children Foundation is raising funds to provide the boy with the necessary bandages and specialized nutrition for 1 month.
