Olesya needs a static orthosis to maintain her ability to walk

Twelve-year-old Olesya has had a congenital spinal cord malformation—a lipoma of the filum terminale—since birth. After her first surgery at 10 months old, she learned to walk, though issues with her feet and pelvic organ functions persisted. For years, she underwent rehabilitation and used special braces to maintain an active life. However, over time, her condition worsened: her right foot became deformed, and later, due to re-attachment of the spinal cord, her left foot completely lost motor function. Olesya is in the fifth grade; she is a very sociable girl with many friends. Olesya's biggest dream is to become a dentist. In November 2024, Olesya underwent a repeat surgery, but her left foot did not regain function. She now requires a custom-made ankle brace to stabilize her foot, help distribute weight correctly, and allow her to walk safely.
