Artem is 8 years old. He has a diagnosis of childhood autism. He doesn't speak, and he doesn't have any household skills: he doesn't ask to use the potty, and he can't put on a hat or zip up his own clothes. His day is filled with repetitive movements (he rocks and spins the wheels of his cars for half an hour), hypersensitivity to sounds (he hits his ears when the vacuum cleaner is on), and aggression and self-aggression. If his routine is disrupted, he may bite his hand until it bleeds, or he may hit himself or others.
But Artem is contactable — if you find the right key. He works with a speech therapist, a neuropsychologist, a speech therapist, goes to kinesiotherapy, hippotherapy, roller skating. He has 15 sounds, but not a single word. Thanks to adaptive physical education classes, the boy will be able to maintain what he has achieved and get closer to the cherished word “mama”. He needs constant, continuous classes so that there are no rollbacks. Every day without rehabilitation is a step back.
