Anya underwent video-EEG monitoring and received a medical consultation

Anya was born healthy, but on the third day of her life, she had an epileptic seizure and was admitted to the intensive care unit. Later, she was transferred to a research center in Moscow, where she underwent an examination. The seizures were successfully controlled. Genetic analysis revealed a mutation in Anya's KCNQ2 gene, which caused her epilepsy. Anya is now 9 months old, and she can occasionally hold her head and turn onto her stomach, as well as pick up toys with her hands. However, she is unable to sit or crawl, and her hypotonia makes it difficult for her to eat from a spoon. Despite this, Anya is a very cheerful girl and likes to be talked to. She does physical therapy every day to keep her skills up. Her family believes that she will be able to walk. However, she occasionally experiences seizures that hinder her development. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly monitor her with video-EEG and consult with an epileptologist to track her epileptiform activity and adjust her therapy to give her a chance for a happy childhood.
