Sonya is 10 years old. She has a rare genetic disorder called Coffin-Siris syndrome, which is a congenital brain disorder and hypothyroidism.
She was born with severe diagnoses. At the hospital, the doctors suggested that her mother write a waiver, saying that the child would not walk or talk. However, her mother firmly refused and began to fight for her daughter. Thanks to her efforts, Sonya started walking at the age of 18 months and started talking at the age of 2. She is currently in the third grade of a special education school. But the syndrome remains: without constant practice, skills are lost.
The mother raises her daughter alone and does not work, as she spends all her time on rehabilitation, trips to doctors, and classes.
The funds will be used to pay for a speech therapist course so that Sonya does not lose what she has achieved, develops her speech, and learns new things.
