According to various data, about 2,000 babies are born each year in Russia with a diagnosis of spina bifida. Two-thirds of women learn about the severe diagnosis during pregnancy and they have a chance to prevent severe developmental disorders in the future baby.
Spina Bifida is a congenital pathology, an incomplete closure of the neural tube, the future spine, which forms a spinal hernia and causes problems with walking, urology and several other body systems.
In the 5 years of the foundation's existence more than 50 women from Russia have already had an intrauterine operation to correct Spina Bifida and give birth to significantly healthy children, changing their lives.
The Spina Bifida Foundation raises funds for a project helping pregnant women waiting for a baby with a Spina Bifida diagnosis.
With the funds raised, the project's curator will be able to:
- Provide pregnant women with information on ways to prevent the congenital pathology of Spina Bifida
- To organize support for pregnant women, who apply to the fund (arrival to Moscow, accommodation, food, examination, preparation for delivery)
- To inform pregnant women about effective routes for intrauterine surgeries to the best experts to prevent severe consequences of the malformation
- To organize and arrange with the maternity hospital ready to deliver a baby with Spina Bifida.
- To inform the parents-to-be and organize the necessary surgery for the baby immediately after birth.
- Organize psychological and legal assistance for the family.
Currently, about 10 pregnant women and women with newborn children per month apply to the foundation. This means that thanks to the foundation's project we will be able to help up to 60 pregnant women and newborn children a year.
We are raising money to run the project for the next five months. Support the Spina bifida Foundation so that families get the best treatment and safe delivery for babies diagnosed with spina bifida.
