Sonya is 5 years old. Since birth, she has had a congenital hip dislocation and neurological abnormalities. At 7 months of age, she underwent surgery, followed by two months in a cast and then braces that prevented her from sitting. The braces were removed only at the age of 2 years and 4 months. Thanks to the doctors, Sonya's leg was preserved, and she will not have a limp.
In parallel, the doctors were searching for the cause of the neurological problems. The diagnosis was pontocerebellar hypoplasia 2A, a severe genetic disorder of a degenerative type. Usually, progress is not possible with such a diagnosis (Sonya has a shaky gait and poor hand-eye coordination), and she has a delay in mental and speech development. However, Sonya is making progress: she can walk (albeit shakily), she is learning, and she can say a few words.
She is constantly working with a kinesiotherapist, a speech therapist, and a defectologist. However, in order to consolidate her progress, she needs to work with a neuropsychologist and an adaptive physical therapist.
The funds will be used to pay for these sessions, which will help her strengthen her body, develop her speech, and maintain her hope.
Let's help Sonya continue to fight and enjoy every day!
