When seven-year-old Liza first came to the group sessions, she barely spoke to the other children. If someone accidentally touched her during a game, she would immediately burst into tears or become defensive. It was hard for Liza to trust adults and other children, hard to ask for help, and even harder to believe that she could feel safe around other people. Before joining her foster family, she had experienced things no child should ever go through: constant anxiety, instability, and the absence of reliable adults she could trust. Even years after finding a family, the consequences of orphanhood still affect her behavior, studies, and relationships with others. During group sessions with a psychologist, children gradually learn things many people take for granted: how to make friends, talk about their feelings, cope with fear and anger, listen to others, and stop expecting danger from the world around them. Through games, activities, and conversations, children begin to understand that they are not alone in their experiences. Today, Liza can calmly meet new children, take part in group games, and talk about what worries her. For her foster family, this is a huge step forward, because behind these changes is not only calmer behavior, but also the emergence of an inner sense of safety and stability. The “Find Family” Foundation provides regular group therapy sessions for primary school-aged children living in foster families.
