Sofia is 8 years old and she heard the first sounds only at the age of 4.5, when she had a cochlear implant in her right ear. The left ear was connected almost at the age of six.
The parents found out too late that their second daughter couldn't hear anything at all. A favorable moment for the natural launch of speech was missed. And now Sofia needs many times more effort to form a speech. It takes weeks to memorize the meaning and sound of each word.
"If she can pronounce two-syllable words, she can't pronounce more complex ones," Mom says. – It's easier for her to draw or gesture than to say.
There are difficulties with understanding. The situation is further complicated by the fact that there are no specialists in their small village who know how to work with such children. Sofia is currently studying in the 1st grade of a specialized school in a neighboring city. She successfully copes with mathematical tasks, performs all written tasks well, loves to draw and play chess. But everything that concerns spoken language leads the child into a stupor. This situation cannot be fixed without rehabilitation. Let's support Sofia and send her to professionals who help children with electronic hearing to speak clearly and correctly.
