In the summer of 2018 Anastasia and her husband Igor were absolutely happy. They just found out they’re going to become parents soon. But one of ordinary tests showed that Anastasia had low hemoglobin. Then, a week before the baby was born she was informed that she had acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Anastasia is 24 years old. She was born in a small, but beautiful village called Pochaevo in Belgorodskaya region of Russia. After she got married, she moved to a nearby village Kosilovo.
There she started to work at school. She organised workshops, parent-teacher conferences, etc. Then she entered a teacher’s university to become a fully qualified teacher.
Soon after that she got pregnant and eight months later found out the terrifying diagnosis.
But one thing she didn’t have was time to be terrified. In just a week she became a mother. In a couple of days she was already in a hematology unit. Few week later she entered into remission and even went back home to her beloved husband and daughter.
“I didn’t think about my disease. I didn’t have time for that, I was all wrapped up in my family life,” she says.
It was like cancer decided to step back and give Anastasia a little time to be with her daughter in her first months on this Earth. But two years later it came back with complications.
Anastasia has already undergone two marrow transplants — from her sister and mother. Now she’s dealing with one of the most common and at the same time hardest complications of a transplantation — graft versus host disease, that attacked her gastrointestinal tract.
She needs Jacavi (ruxolitinib) medicine, that costs 203 000 rubles. It’s the most effective medicine against this disease, but it cannot be provided by the government for free.
Leukemia Foundation has already raised the most of it. All we need now is 80 000 rubles.
