Khadija was born with a congenital heart defect. Her condition was extremely severe. Her blood saturation, that is, her oxygen saturation, dropped to 65%! The girl could hardly breathe, and needed immediate skilled care.
Her parents flew urgently from Kyrgyzstan to a hospital in St. Petersburg, where after examination, doctors performed the first stage of treatment: a heart bypass surgery.
Six-month-old Khadija now needs a second surgery to allow blood from her upper body to flow to her lungs, bypassing the heart.

According to her mother, Khadija is a calm and smiling child. Despite the congenital defect, the baby is developing as a normal child of her age: she loves to play with rattles, reacts to sounds, and recognizes familiar faces. She does not yet understand why she is not allowed to do certain things and why she is being taken to doctors.
