Because of her mother's injury during pregnancy, Shukrona was born 11 weeks premature. The girl was in the intensive care unit on the ventilator for 15 days. She went home only after 1.5 months of nursing in the hospital.
During the first months of her life her parents regularly saw the child to a neurologist who recommended an examination by an ophthalmologist.
The parents did not understand the doctors' concerns - retinopathy of prematurity (a dangerous eye disease in premature babies) is unnoticeable in its initial stages.
But after checking, they immediately went to a hospital in Tashkent. The diagnosis was confirmed, but they were told that they could only help save her eyesight in St. Petersburg.
At the moment Shukrona at one year and four months has already had four eye surgeries. She has a very close family - her elder brother is 16 years old, her mother works as a teacher, and father works in militia. Soon Shukrona is about to have the last stage of the surgery - the insertion of the alloplant. This is a biomaterial which stimulates the affected tissues and helps the retina to recover.
But any surgery for CIS citizens in Russia has to be paid for. Parents have spent everything they had on the previous surgeries and now they ask us for help.
Let's help Shukrona save her eyes!
