Kanysh had a congenital heart defect diagnosed at birth, at which time her parents declined surgery for social reasons. Since childhood, Kanysh has had frequent sore throats and joint syndrome, but since December 2022 her condition has worsened, with shortness of breath, weakness with exercise, heart pain, headaches, joint pain, nausea, and poor sleep.
