Erkini has a severe chronic heart condition and has had infectious myocarditis diagnosed since 2010, as well as multiple comorbidities. An ICD is a device, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, designed to eliminate life-threatening arrhythmias and prevent cardiac arrest. Erkinah was fitted with an ICD device in Turkey in 2016, but the battery needs to be replaced, usually lasting 5-7 years. Now Erkinah urgently needs a battery replacement, because in Erkinah's case, the battery prevents a deadly arrhythmia from developing and saves her from death. Erkine is an invalid of the second group; the allowance she receives is barely enough to pay for her medications. Erkine lives with her sister, as she has no family and no place of her own.
