The year before last Zlata ceased to smile, as her large medical card says. Zlata is indifferent to ordinary toys, she likes only musical ones. However, it is hard for her to pay attention to them for a long time. Zlata can't do many actions. In fact, even holding her head straight is quite difficult. Zlata had a severe lesion of the central nervous system. It had serious consequences for her body.
At the age of 3 months the girl started having seizures. Now they happen daily–and often. Zlata is about to have her fourth birthday. Every day she has to take more than 10 drugs prescribed by doctors. To make the medications and special nutrition better absorbed, Zlata gets them through a gastrostomy tube–a special tube in the stomach which was surgically installed this winter.
Although Zlata doesn't talk, one can always tell when she is happy or upset. If she doesn't like anything, she strains and clenches her lips tight. Zlata calms down when an adult dandles her or gently brushes her hair. Zlata's sleep is usually restless but delicate touches and calm voice help her fall asleep. Constant seizures cause breathing problems, especially at night. So when Zlata sleeps, there is always an oxygen concentrator working near.
Recently Zlata's condition has significantly worsened. Convulsive attacks have become more frequent and intense, the pain syndrome has intensified, and problems with breathing while sleeping have worsened. To properly breathe at night, Zlata now needs additional medical equipment. Zlata also needs a comfortable bath chair from which she will not slide. The model specifically designed for disabled children was picked in this summer. Zlata was at the Moscow private children's hospice on hospitalization at this time.
