Yevgeny Ivanovich is 81 years old and in poor health: shortness of breath, high blood pressure, headaches. He can hardly see anything and feels helpless. Grandpa has no relatives, he has been living in a shelter for several years. He only goes outside with a companion, and therefore not often: he has to ask his roommates for help or wait until the social worker is available.
We met Yevgeny Ivanovich this winter. At first his grandfather was examined by a general practitioner, prescribed analyses, and was given the necessary medication. And later at the ophthalmologist's appointment our patient was diagnosed with cataract. His eyesight needed to be saved - and urgently, otherwise the elderly man risked going completely blind.
The doctor at the Hospital referred Evgeny Ivanovich to a partner ophthalmological clinic for surgery. A week later, his grandfather's vision was restored in his right eye, and soon he will undergo a second operation in his left eye. He is very happy to see the faces of his roommates, doctors and volunteers.And he will finally be able to go out on his own - at his age it is so important to feel independent.
Several days a week, the Charity Hospital team uses its own ambulance to visit patients who cannot get to the clinic on their own.The team is now in desperate need of a homeless social work specialist on a permanent basis. This is a person who helps patients to recover lost documents, disability, pension, find accommodation and sometimes relatives.
We ask for help in paying for the labour of a specialist in social work, as well as in buying consumables for the work of the mobile medical and social service - disposable sheets, towels, disinfectants.And later at the ophthalmologist's appointment our patient was diagnosed with cataract.
