Charity Fund DARA

Fundación Kazakhstan

With your support, 24 students at the Shymkent children’s home attended math tutoring in September as part of the “Mentors: Educational Courses for Children Without Parental Care” project. Project goal: Help children in residential care close learning gaps in core subjects, prepare graduates for the Unified National Testing (UNT) and college entrance exams, improve their chances of admission to universities and colleges, and support a successful transition after leaving care. Context: Lower academic performance among children in residential care is often linked to disrupted attachment, deprivation of basic needs, and earlier experience in dysfunctional family settings. These factors affect cognitive development and motivation, shaping how students engage with school. Results (September): Participants: grades 3–11 Format: small groups organized by current math level Delivery: regular tutoring sessions throughout the month Use of funds The remaining balance of 4,487 tenge has been allocated to tutoring in October. Thank you for your care, support, and investment in the education of children without parental care. Your contribution makes measurable progress possible.

Mentor's Day event for teenagers from orphanages.

Since 2015, the Mentors program has been helping teenagers from orphanages find their personal mentors-senior friends and, through such friendship, develop their life potential. The foundation facilitates professionally organized communication between teenagers and adult volunteers-mentors by conducting (1) Mentor School trainings to educate candidates to the mentors, (2) Mentor Clubs to share experience and information, as well as (3) professional psychological support for mentor-teenager pairs and, if possible, (4) Mentor’s Day events, and much, much more. Through this work, trusting friendships are formed, and children discover and develop independent living skills with ongoing individualized support from mentors. Children without parental care in institutions have big problems with independence, the knowledge of household skills, confidence and self-motivation. Therefore, mentors become senior friends for children in the difficult teenage period, helping in the development of communication skills, social competencies and learning by acting as a role model. The program targets children over the age of 11 who generally have little chance of being adopted due to their age and status of being in an orphanage. The funds raised will be used for the important Mentor Day celebration, an event that helps create a positive and trusting space to spend time together and form lasting emotional bonds. We aim to create an environment where mentors and children can not only strengthen their relationship, but also have an unforgettable experience that will help them understand each other better and become even stronger friends. Mentors, having received a charge of energy and positive emotions, continue their important mission with new strength and attitude, and children feel more confident in their friendship with a mentor. Thanks to your help we will be able to organize active and interesting pastime, dastarkhan, photo/video support, transportation, memorable gifts and much more for more than 200 children and their mentors!
