Matvey Karmanovsky from Torzhok has spinal muscular atrophy. This is a genetic disorder that leads to muscle weakness and then to complete atrophy of all muscles in the body. Matvey was lucky, he has the rarest type III. This means that he weakens and loses skills slower than others.
In his incomplete six he walks, can jump uncertainly on one leg, step over the curb and even climb the wall bar. But until recently there was a problem with stairs – Matvey could go down only sideways, holding onto the railing with both hands. But here he is making a progress too. All thanks to Spinraza injections - at the end of November Matvey received the first injection of the only registered in Russia drug for the SMA treatment.
Now the boy has a real chance to become an absolutely healthy child! To do this he needs to continue treatment and train hard.
