When Ilya was one, he was diagnosed with a terrible diagnosis: a diffuse brainstem tumor. The tumor caused dilated ventricles of the brain and interfered with the circulation of the liquor, that’s why was made an urgent bypass surgery to drain the liquor into the abdominal cavity.
The doctors' prognosis was discouraging: the tumor could not be removed, it was located in the stem, and the stem is responsible for breath, swallow, vision; the cerebellum, which is responsible for coordination and balance, is also affected. Despite the severe diagnosis Ilya feels good, followed up by a doctor during 6 years without any negative dynamics.
Due to the diagnosis, Ilya is behind in development, has unsteady gait, slurring speech. Doctors recommend sessions at rehabilitation centers, as Ilya has very good rehabilitation potential.
Ilyusha will be 7 years old in April, and he plans to go to school in September. Rehabilitation plans are the following: to improve walking by September, to improve sounds’ pronunciation and fine motor skills. Boy’s hands are too weak and he has problems with drawing and writing.
Ilya is a very sociable, kind, and positive child. He really wants to communicate with other children and doesn’t take offense if someone doesn’t understand his speech. He is fond of cars and studies their brands. The boy is very inquisitive. If he hears a word he does not understand, he will definitely ask what it means.
There are four people in Ilyusha's family: his father, mother, daughter Vasilisa, 11 years old, and Ilya. Only Dad works in the family, and Mom is with Ilya all the time.
