The first month of life was full of challenges when Saafia was diagnosed with stage 5 retinopathy of prematurity. This dangerous condition requires immediate intervention. The girl's family, citizens of one of the CIS countries, travelled to Russia for their daughter's treatment, where they paid for 2 surgeries with their own resources.
