Alisa uses cochlear implants. They help her hear, but she needs a course of specialist therapy to develop clear and correct speech. Together, we can help her. Alisa did not pass her newborn hearing screening. At first, doctors attributed the result to her narrow ear canals and premature birth. The same thing happened when she was tested again at three months old. At six months, Alisa was diagnosed with grade 4 hearing loss, bordering on profound deafness. A cochlear implant was the only way to help her hear. When Alisa was one year old, the implant in her right ear was activated. She immediately began listening closely, taking in the sounds around her and responding to her name. A course of auditory-verbal rehabilitation became a turning point in her development. Specialists fine-tuned her speech processor and worked with her intensively. After the course, Alisa began to speak. Recently, the implant in her left ear was activated.
