A month after her birth, Azalia was diagnosed with a heart defect – a ventricular septal defect. It is getting worse every day and is preventing her heart from functioning properly. The only way to correct this is through heart surgery.
Azalia is under constant observation by cardiologists. At the latest hospital consultation regarding Azalia’s condition, the doctors gave her parents some alarming news: the septal defect is growing, and one of the heart chambers has begun to enlarge to a critical size. This means the surgery can no longer be postponed – it must be performed immediately.
Azalia is a very cheerful little girl. At five months old, her favorite thing is listening to her mom read books to her. Azalia freezes, catches every breath her mom takes, and is overjoyed to hear her mother’s voice.
