Helios is a young, incredibly handsome, and affectionate dog who arrived at the shelter six months ago.
Recently, staff noticed something concerning about Helios:
- His gait had become jerky and unnatural.
- His coordination was impaired.
Helios was taken to a veterinary neurologist. The preliminary diagnosis is compressive myelopathy (intervertebral disc disease). This means his spinal cord is being compressed; without treatment, he could completely lose the ability to walk.
To confirm the diagnosis and determine the treatment plan (Helios may require urgent surgery), an expensive diagnostic procedure is necessary. The most significant and costly part is a CT scan of the spine (prioritizing the C1–T3 region) and the hip joints. This represents a huge expense for the shelter.
Dear Tubers! Thanks to your generosity and the help of other caring individuals, we have restored the health of hundreds of animals.
Thank you! And we thank you in advance for supporting Helios!
