The Alisa Foundation is launching a fundraising campaign for a two-month culinary program for 15 teenagers who are graduates of orphanages and foster families. The program is aimed at developing practical skills for independent living and social adaptation.
Transitioning to independence is a serious challenge for young people who have been left without parental support. They must learn to handle everyday tasks, plan a modest budget, and build relationships with others without relying on adults. Often, it is precisely basic life skills that become the main barrier to successful adaptation.
Under the guidance of a mentor, the teenagers learn basic cooking skills: from kitchen safety techniques to preparing complete and affordable meals. The mentor creates a safe environment where it is okay to make mistakes, try new things, and not fear criticism. They help the teens communicate within the group, teach them to negotiate, distribute responsibilities, and work as a team—this becomes a model for future relationships both at work and in life in general.
The mentor pays special attention to budget planning. They explain how to calculate the cost of groceries, choose quality alternatives, and stay within a limited amount—this gives the teenagers a real tool for managing their finances. Most importantly, the mentor becomes someone they can always turn to for advice and support, and this sense of security is critically important for those starting independent lives.
The funds raised will be used to purchase groceries for eight classes and to pay the mentor's salary. Support the program—give teenagers the opportunity to confidently step into adulthood!
