Safiyat is nine years old, but she has already spent seven months in the hospital. The child has acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
At the end of winter, always active and cheerful Safiyat began to complain of fatigue. When her daughter developed a fever, her mother took her to the hospital. After tests were done, the little girl was referred to a hematologist and then hospitalized. The next day, doctors made the diagnosis and sent Safiyat to Moskva.
At the L.A. Durnov Research Institute of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the N.N. Blokhin NMITs of Oncology, the girl underwent several courses of chemotherapy, but none of the standard treatments helped her.
Safiyat can be helped by CAR-T technology — this is the "reprogramming" of immune system cells by creating special receptors. CAR can be imagined as a "GPS navigator" for a T-kletka, which allows her own T-leykotsit to be "taught" to recognize and destroy malignant cells. The OMS program does not yet cover the consumables that allow real-time monitoring of the blood cell composition and the activity of the administered CAR.
Any help is a chance for Safiyat to begin the most important stage of treatment. Let’s help the child defeat the disease together!
